Home Life

Wow life has been busy. My blog posts end up being few and far between despite my best intentions, but it gets a little hectic juggling everything. I spent Sunday pottering about the house, baking cookies (thanks to Anna's recipe), and took a few photos to share - though I must admit the house was far from tidy so I had to pick my shots. When (if ever) our house actually ends up being tidy, I will take you on a proper little house tour, and a garden one too! But these photos may explain the explosion of colour at Mr Sparrow the last few months...

Delicious choc chip, brown butter and sea salt cookies, recipe over here. Note to myself for next time: Do not over sprinkle the salt! - I ended up brushing it all off the top as there's salt already in the cookie (I just got excited with the salt sprinkling and being all chef like!)

Our Kip & Co bedspread! Love it!* Third Drawer Down pillowcases by Beci Orpin.

 Foxes by Jen Lobo.

A salvaged painting (top), my favourite Beci Orpin print, my wedding bouquet (can't believe it was almost one year ago!), and a most beautiful crazy statue with a woman leaping onto a deer's back to get to her beau on his horse.

And just for a little more colour - my silk scarf collection. I have many.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

*If you missed out on a Kip & Co quilt cover in their Croc pattern collection, we have more arriving in April, and I'm taking names now for pre-orders. If you don't want to miss out this time then be sure to email me and pop your name down (info@mrsparrow.com.au).

New Products in the Online Store

You'll be pleased to know that we've been busy adding some of our new products to the online store of late, and I thought I'd share with you what's new online!

The much loved Yoshii towels from Japan now come in a new linen stripe, feautring a contrast of darker and lighter stripes.

And there are new hand towels in the two tone and tricolour designs too!

Porcelain milk bottle in ocean with a glazed interior suitable for fluids or a small posy of flowers.

And in a slate colour (mini milk jug over here)

Gorgeous watercolour spot silk scarf by Emily Green.

And much loved publication Dumbo Feather has hit our shelves, with their first issue for 2013. Be inspired with in-depth interviews with the most extraordinary of people.

Enjoy!

New in store: Pigeon Toe Ceramics

One of my very favourite pastimes is to daydream about our very sunny and open backyard being transformed into a lush, green garden oasis. I have come to terms that this is unlikely to happen given Perth is so hot, the water restrictions in place, and whilst I love native plants and have many in my garden, they don't equate to that lush, tropical look of my daydreams. One such thing that I dream about having in my outdoor space is some beautiful hanging planters filled with trailing plants dotted with tiny white and yellow flowers. So I am always on the look out for some beautiful ceramic planters, and when I stumbled across Pigeon Toe Ceramics after much searching, I was both delighted and incredibly nervous about getting their amazing ceramics into the store.

Pigeon Toe Ceramics are based in Portland, Oregon, and make the most gorgeous simple ceramics, that really will make your house a space where you will want to spend more time in. My favourite is the faceted hanging tray, featuring thin leather straps and a faceted bottom, suspended from an oxidized metal ring. They also have a very simple though beautiful rope birdfeeder, a scribble planter, and my most desired piece in the store at the moment - the three tiered ceramic hanging planter.

Happy garden daydreaming to you too! I'll be back soon with some photos from my mum's garden - it's worth hanging around for! x

These days...

We've been going to the beach, adding new plants to the garden, lounging around poolside, making ceramic house planters (so amazing!) with studiOH, and we made a trip out to Caversham Wildlife Park with our friend who was visiting from New York. I love that place.

The dog beach on a Sunday morning. Bliss.

Making ceramic house planters at the studiOH workshops. It was so much fun and Louise was such an amazing teacher, I can't wait to go to another one! Oh, and get my little ceramic house back from the kiln to see how it turned out!

Dave planted my hydrangea plant at my parent's place. We don't have enough shade at our house, so I'm hoping it will grow in this nice shady spot until our own greenery grows some more.

Because really, why would you want to be anywhere else when you can go and lounge at this beautiful space?

Caversham Wildlife Park is one of my favourite spots to take visitors.

Oh so cuddly looking! Just watch those claws!

Present wrapping for my sister's mothers group. They're all turning one!

I have the nicest customers! Thank you :)

New plants in the shop! Pink flowers to match the pink gem vessel.

An evening with studiOH!

We had a most brilliant time on Wednesday night hosting a workshop with the studiOH gals at Mr Sparrow. I can't say a big enough thanks to Anna and Eko for coming along and having it at the shop. We were flooded with workshoppers right from 6pm, and everyone waited so patiently for their turn. We also had cheese, homemade brownies, cherry and plum cake, and fetta and spinach pastries (thanks mum!) Oh, and a lucky dip too!

Thanks to Dave for taking these snaps as I was busy behind the counter the whole night. But mostly thank you to everyone who came. You were all so patient despite the tiny shop (though I did have someone asked me if the shop has gotten smaller) and we really appreciate all of your support! The success of this workshop means we are now starting to think about more in the future (stay tuned!)

Let's do it again some time, shall we?
