New to Mr Sparrow: Kauniste

Kauniste is a Finnish company that was created by uniting the talents of young Scandinavian graphic designers and craftsmen. They aim to pair bright fresh designs with traditional screen printing skills, in products for the everyday.

They are environmentally conscious in their manufacturing, using water based, solvent free inks for printing, and a linen blend fabric. The linen absorbs moisture well, dries fast, and there is very little surplus waste in production.

We have part of their collection in store, including cushion covers, trays, aprons, tea towels, and tote bags, featuring their simple yet fun designs. And the best thing is that you can treat yourself or pick one of these up as a gift without breaking the bank. Just check out that amazing forest scene design in the last image!

If you can't make it into Mr Sparrow soon, don't fret - their products are now available online too!

New in store: Tightoloy

Oh yes! I am really excited to say that we're now stocking Tightology at Mr Sparrow! A Victorian based company, their focus is on injecting some fun into the everyday in an environmentally conscious manner. Their tights are designed in Australia, and made in Australia and Italy, and they use natural fabrics - wool, cotton and bamboo.

I'm loving the pattern and colour combinations, and they are incredibly soft to the touch. My current favourites are the spotty 'Cirque' style in Peach, and the footless Folk design in the light Pebble colour, though I'm sure this will change (I'm fickle like that). I can't wait for the weather to cool down so I can pull a pair on and do some matchy matchy business with a necklace and belt! They'll also be sure to cheer you up when the weather starts to get dreary - who doesn't like the thought of looking down at peach polka dots all day!?

If you can't make it in to the shop to see them for yourself, they are now in our online store too!

Flowers, night markets & more!

It's a busy day in the shop today. Lots of unpacking of boxes to be done (new stock, yay!), paperwork to get through, online orders to wrap and post, and coffees to be had. Though you've got to love a day that kicks off with flower arranging. I'm no pro but it's quite fun.

I'm looking forward to these laneway markets in Northbridge this weekend - go OnWilliam gals, you guys rock.

I've entered this amazing giveaway, wow that rug is amazing don't you think? Actually, pretty much everything is awesome. Fingers crossed!

In love with this round kitchen window. Sigh.

And thank you to everyone who has sent their RSVP's for Wednesday night's workshop event in the shop, it's looking like a very busy night!

New in store: Emily Green

Hailing from Perth but now kicking about in Melbourne, Emily Green can only do good things. And I definitely know I'm not alone in thinking this. Her jewellery is seriously great, and her colour combinations are second to none. Just check out those necklaces!

You'll be pleased to know that she's been a super busy lady of late, and has expanded her range of bead necklaces, some of which have just arrived in the shop this last week. Her pieces now include chunky bead necklaces on a thin plaited leather cord, featuring patterned, textured and bright beads, as well 18 bead necklaces on a plaited leather cord. Of course, she's still making her usual 9 bead necklaces which we have on a silver plated chain. Plus to top it off we have her studs in store, alongside the most delicious watercolour spot silk scarf - pink silk and pretty watercolour spots? Yes please!

Second lot of images courtesy of Emily Green.

My current favourite is the Brunhilde Necklace in the last image. Just imagine pairing those colours in winter with beetroot tights and a navy skirt....

You can now buy them in the Mr Sparrow online store, or pop into Mr Sparrow and check them out for yourself.

A little Frankie love

Oh my! How exciting! You might have spotted a few of our products in the recent issue of Frankie magazine, in a beautifully curated gardening spread. We are very pleased to be involved, and listed alongside some of our favourite designers too! You'll spot our sky planter, plant pod, and glass hanging vessel. We also stock Stampel's macrame hangers and Urban Cartel's amazing ceramic milk bottles, and are pleased to say we'll soon have the likes of Pigeontoe ceramics in our hot little hands (ceramic test tube hanger pictured far left).

studiOH! Summer Workshops

I've been getting lots of emails recently about Anna's super popular terrarium workshops, so I thought I'd share a bit of information about studiOH's upcoming workshops.

Anna has once again teamed up with her good friend Eko, and together these gorgeous girls have curated a selection of very awesome workshops for summer!

Taking place from 31st January - 7th February 2013 in a pop-up location in East Fremantle, the workshops will include Make Your Own Crocheted Floor Rug (over two sessions), Make Your Own Terrarium, Make Your Own Ceramic Mini House Votive & Planter Box, Print, Dye, Personalise & Package Your Own Teatowels, and their first ever kids class, Terrariums for Kids (in two age groups)!

All the details can be found on their website at www.studiohworkshops.com, and bookings can be made through their online store. They also offer discounts for multiple bookings of 3 or more, so get together with some friends or book yourself into multiple classes and make sure you choose the multiple booking option in the online store. These workshops will all be in small groups and are expected to fill up fast.

If you have any questions about the workshops you can email hello@studiohworkshops.com

They've also added lots of photos from their Christmas workshops series, Ho Ho OH!, which you can take a look at over on their gallery page, and keep up to date with them on facebook.

I've just booked myself into one, so hope to see you there!

Introducing: Stay Home Club

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a most deserved super relaxing break, and are ready to make 2013 another excellent year! Yes? Or do you need another coffee this morning before you can think about tackling this task? Well, 2013 is going to be a big year for Mr Sparrow. I'm not exactly sure in which way just yet, but I'm brimming with ideas and look forward to making some of them happen. So whilst you're sipping away on your coffee or tea, I have a lovely new supplier to share with you.

Based in Canada, Stay Home Club is the work of Olivia Mews. An artist interested in exploring textiles and imprinting them with her beautiful illustrations, she founded Stay Home Club in August 2012 to give other artists and illustrators the chance to explore textiles as a medium. I'm pleased to say that when we reopen our door at Mr Sparrow next Monday, you'll find their sweet pillowcases on our shelves. The pillowcases are 100% cotton, and have been digitally printed with an artist's artwork. We have a variety of designs in stock, though a handful of them are already available in our online store if you can't wait til then!

Logs pillow case by Sarah Burwash. These come in two sweet complementary designs...

They're up in the online store now too!

and such sweet packaging to accompany each pillowcase too.

It's all rather lovely don't you think? And a nice way to freshen up your bedroom too!
