NYC Top 10...#8 Saraghina

Sorry, I don't have the best photos of this place but I had to include it because it was such a favourite with all of us! Saraghina is a brilliant Italian restaurant that just happened to be only a block from our apartment in Bedford Stuyvesant. We first heard about it from True, our friendly-but-slightly-wacky landlord, who sang its praises. Well, let me just say this place was so good we went back twice! In only two weeks! When we had a list as long as your arm full of restaurants we wanted to try out! It was that good. James and I have been to Naples - the birthplace of pizza - and we declared Saraghina's pizza the best we'd had since then. The first night we went was right after the blizzard, when the whole city had pretty much ground to a standstill and no-one was getting deliveries of fresh food. As a result they were only offering pizzas and salad, which suited us just fine. The second time we went they had the full menu back in action but the pizzas had been so good that three of the four of us still opted for them! My favourite was the margherita, which when done properly has to be the best pizza in the world. It is the original pizza, after all! The capocollo, which had a mix of delicious, salty meats, was also out of this world, though...
Anyway, I'm getting carried away with the pizza! The place itself was also fantastic. It felt really rustic and homely, helped by cosy candlelight and a sort of vintage-y fit-out. Down one wall was also a lovely big bench table, where we sat the first night. And in the centre of the room was a sort of little atrium with a pretty Christmas tree and fairy lights inside. We wondered what was in there at other times of year, but thought it looked very pretty!
Oh, and the best bit of all? This place is run by real Italians! James had a chat to them to first night, as he's half-Italian and has a lot of family there. It wasn't just the owners who were Italian, either - every single person working there had a thick Italian accent and was also extremely good-looking! It all helps :)
Here's wishing you a fun-filled weekend! I'll start up the regular Happy Friday posts next week - sorry, still getting back into the swing of things!
