Hi! Eko here again.
I love making top five lists and I thought I'd share the number one spot for my New York top five with you - The Highline! I had read about it in blogs before I left for our holiday so I had high expectations for it and it certainly lived up to the hype!
The Highline is a 2.33 km park that has been built on a section of the former elevated freight railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. The park was designed by the New York-based landscape firm of James Corner Field Operations, and architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, with planting design from Piet Oudolf of the Netherlands. It's such a great idea and has been beautifully done right down to the cute outdoor chairs. The Highline is wonderful by day and at night. The the plants are mainly American natives and include mainly soft meadow plants and grasses. At night The Standard hotel which straddles the park causes people to giggle on occasion as the floor to ceiling windows provide an intimate look inside each room!
If you do happen to find yourself lucky enough to be heading to New York, don't miss The Highline! I'd recommend heading over in the afternoon and then grabbing some food from the fabulous Chelsea Market nearby for some great Thai food from Chelsea Thai followed by the yummiest brownies ever from the Fat Witch Bakery and taking it back up for a picnic!
