I think both Anna and I have already mentioned that we went to Melbourne recently to see Richard III. Not only was the play wonderful but so too was the theatre it was in. The new 500-seat Sumner theatre for the MTC was opened in January 2009 and was designed by Ashton Raggatt McDougall architects. We were lucky enough to have a tour backstage and I must say the actors get the rough end of the stick! It's not that glamorous back there. I was impressed by the actors' labelled water bottles though (pictured). Very organised! Anyway - despite the understandably basic back-stage area the theatre is very fun right down to the bathrooms. The ladies' is very, very pink and the men's is very, very blue. I always think it's worth judging a venue by it's bathroom and I highly recommend checking out the MTC ones!
